ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM

In our continuing effort to foster and develop arts in the Tampa Bay area, we established an Artist Residency Program in 2016. This program allows for a collaborative exchange between the Tampa Bay arts community and visiting artists from across the country and beyond.

Invited artists receive a $1,000 stipend and reside in a fully furnished live/work apartment located above our gallery for one-month. Artists are provided space and access to tools to create a series of artworks, curate an exhibition, or conduct research.

Every artist is given opportunities to interact with local artists and our welcoming artistic community. Following their month-long residence, artists have the opportunity to install a one-month solo exhibition in our gallery space. Tempus funds this exhibition, including an opening reception with the artist.

“The summer after receiving an MFA in sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University, I was invited to be an artist-in-residence at Tempus Projects. The residency gave me time to decompress after grad school, and to test new ideas outside the halls of academia. I am thankful for Tempus Projects for affording me the next step beyond school and for investing in my practice. The experience was invaluable..” - John Orth

“My residency at Tempus Projects allowed me the freedom, time and space to curate an exhibition. It’s rare to find a residency program for curators, especially one with funding and housing provided. Having access to gallery space, tools, marketing, and installation assistance made for a smooth exhibition experience.” - Christina Humphreys

“The time and space came at the right time. I was between several exhibitions which showed the majority of my recent and old work. Tempus was the right space to create new work, update my social media, and meet Tampa artists.” - William Downs
