FEBRUARY 19, 2021 - MARCH 26,2021

Tampa, FL – Tempus Projects is pleased to present ‘FENG SHUI IN A BARBIE HOUSE = BRIEF COMPILATION’ by Roberto Marquez. This exhibition features recent works by Marquez involving painting and ceramic collages.

Marquez’s practice explores the identity of the colonizer through its inherently humorous and ironic qualities. His paintings are made using ceramic as a material to imitate the facture of painting, bringing a colorful, ironic, and dark humor of the painterly painting abstractions. Throughout his body of work, there is a tone of frustration and humor of a figurative imagery that looks of its own acceptance.

Departing from a colonized perspective, Marquez often encounters the irony of the colonized person always striving to emulate the colonizer to find and develop their own identities. Humor is the most frequent thought that surrounds his practice. Questioning the history of painting and art, as well as examining his own history and its relevance creates interesting possibilities.

‘FENG SHUI IN A BARBIE HOUSE = BRIEF COMPILATION’ will be on view from February 19 to March 19 at LiveWork Studios by appointment only. Text your appointment request to 813-340-9056, and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule. Social distancing enforced, masks required, and a max. party of 4 welcome.
