CULTURAL CURRENCY :: New Roots Art Collective

Tempus Projects and Crab Devil in partnership with Illsol and New Roots Art Collective are thrilled to announce the new collaborative mural ‘Cultural Currency’ will be unveiled on October 24th, 2020 from 2pm to 5pm.

This event serves as part of a welcome for the community which highlights the artists and cultural organizations residing in and contributing to the vibrancy of our neighborhood. We hope this event fosters a sense of community with our neighbors through engagement with the arts.
 
Attendants will be able to enjoy free hotdogs and sodas, with ample room for social distancing at Crab Devil, a Tampa-based multi-media art collective, located at 3800 N Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, FL 33603. Mike Mass and more will perform live music throughout the event.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Illsol @_illsol_ is the husband and wife duo of Michelle Sawyer & Tony Krol, focusing on a collaborative effort in illustration, original artwork, event planning, curation, and design. New Roots Art is composed of Melvin Halsey Jr., Jaurice Moore, Ron Simmons and Briauna Walker!
 
Tampa based illustrator/graphic designer Melvin Halsey Jr., @lang.stn has been creating mixed media art for the past several years. His works are influenced by his love for fashion, African cultures, tribes, and traditions while fusing his interest in cyberpunk and anime.
 
Jaurice Moore (@indiereece) is a self taught painter. With a love for nature, lines, shapes, and texture he combines all these elements to create an Afro-Futurism take on the world around us through his eyes.
 
Ron Simmons @ronsdot is a self-taught visual artist born and raised in Tampa.Inspired by the world around him, he creates characters from different backgrounds that dawn a gas mask as a sign of resilience.

Briauna Walker @natural_exchange is the New Roots Art Collective Curator & Board Member. She is a self-taught painter of 7 years. Her art is inspired by the beauty of black women, the sky, hues within the black community, and the bright colors that accentuate those hues.
