SUNISTRA: THE SINISTER SIDE OF THE SUNSHINE STATE :: Group Exhibition

Tempus Projects is pleased to present Sunistra, a group exhibition featuring art selected by guest juror Christopher Jones, curator of Photography and New Media at The Ringling Museum of Art where he oversees the photography, new media, and works on paper collection. Exploring the sinister side of the Sunshine State, the exhibition features work in a wide variety of media. The exhibition title is a portmanteau of "sunshine" and the Latin word "sinistra"—the forebearer of the English word “sinister” which retains some of its original connotations of something that is harmful and inauspicious. The play on words reflects the often idyllic/nightmarish dichotomy Florida embodies in its natural, social and political climates. This serves as a thematic jumping-off point for the exhibition’s applicants as the artists investigate this peculiar state through their diverse perspectives and unique approaches.

Accepted artists include: Jennifer Allen, Shelly Bradon, Jessica Burke, Gloria Ceren, Jeremy Chandler, Keith Crowley, Devon Moore Curtin, Becky Flanders, Amy J Fleming, Ben Galaday, Joe Griffith, Nabil Harb, Allison Hilgert, Alice Leavengood, John Mansfield, Jordan Marty, Noelle Mason, Ivan Riascos, Heather Rosenbach, Naomi Shersty, and Taylor Torres.
