Tempus Projects probes Florida’s dark side once again this summer in Quintas Sunistra. The term "Sunistra" combines "sunshine" with the Latin word "sinistra," meaning "left" or "sinister." This fusion juxtaposes Florida's idyllic imagery with its ominous realities, reflecting the state's complex natural, social, and political landscapes.
Launched in 2018, this annual juried exhibition adopts a new theme each year, inviting artists to interpret Florida’s contradictions through fresh and diverse perspectives. This year’s theme is “Vae Victis.” Vae Victis translates from Latin as “woe to the vanquished,” a phrase that reflects the challenges faced by those caught in the ebb and flow of change. This sentiment invites contemplation on the various narratives that emerge within a state characterized by both vibrancy and conflict. As Florida continues to navigate its multifaceted identity, the phrase serves as a reminder of the diverse experiences that shape our collective understanding.
