DRIFT:: LOOK WHO DECIDED TO STOP BY:: Kaylin Price, Erin Titus:: ‘Look Who Decided to Stop By’ is collaborative body of work that plays with the constant paradoxes between symbolism and function of objects in the home. Kaylin Price and Erin Titus exaggerate the design of objects to effectively connect elements, patterns, and materials to the emotional content the object has to the individual. Collected and design elements found in home decoration are a vehicle to question if objects contain inherent qualities or if their meanings are acquired by constant repetition through familiarity and convention.

Kaylin Price is a Tampa born artist working primarily in sculpture. She transforms found furniture, fabrics, and other mixed media materials into bold, exaggerated forms that reimagine everyday objects. Altering the shape and function of these objects allows new context to be associated to recognizable entities.

Price’s work emphasizes the emotive effect of design and aesthetics. By breaking down and reconstructing the superfluous associations we assign to objects, Price works to understand what makes an object essential and how connections to these possessions changes by stripping superficial artifice. What is left is the framework for the individual to find a unique experience that is built on personal connection.

Erin Titus is a Florida based artist who explores domestic spaces as an extension of the individual. Cocooning memories, possessions, and practical rituals of everyday life, the home’s shelter is a catalyst for individual growth. Influenced by hereditary memory loss, repeated patterns, and the familial Florida home, Titus incorporates small scale and packed compositions that echo the nostalgia of a keepsake. Ordinary objects collected from habit engorge space and create tension both picturesque and deteriorating. The juxtaposition of collected memories in an unfamiliar space construct and tear down associations that create intimacy. Resolution follows as if walking through the home for the first time. Titus graduated from the University of South Florida with a BFA in Studio Art and currently lives in Tampa.
